Editorial Policy

This policy sets out how HNL Deals decides what to cover, who writes it, how money is kept separate from editorial judgment, and what happens when we get something wrong. It applies to everything published on this site.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. We do not sell coverage, placement, ratings, or favorable wording, and no advertiser or affiliate partner reviews an article before publication.

HNL Deals earns commission when a reader buys through a link on this site. That commission does not depend on which product we recommend, and it never changes a score. Where a product we rate poorly still pays a commission, and where a product we rate highly pays none, the rating stands as written. Our commercial relationships are described on the Affiliate Disclaimer page.

How we choose what to cover

We pick categories where a buyer faces a genuine decision and where the available advice is thin, contradictory, or written by the people selling the product. Within a category we cover the options a reasonable buyer would actually consider, including the ones with no affiliate program attached. Leaving a strong product out because it pays nothing would make the roundup dishonest.

Accuracy and sourcing

Specifications, prices, model numbers, and measurements are checked against a primary source before publication. If we cannot source a number, we do not print it.
We attribute measurements and findings that came from someone else, by name.
We do not claim to have run our own laboratory measurements. Our method is set out in full on How We Review.
Prices move constantly, so we avoid writing prices into the body of an article and instead point to the live price at the retailer.

Balance

Every review states who the product is not for. An article that lists only strengths is advertising, whatever it calls itself. Where a product has a known weakness, a recurring defect, or a warranty term that catches people out, that goes in the review even when it costs us the sale.

Authors and accountability

Every article carries a byline and a publication date, and an editor signs off before it goes live. Authors write under a consistent byline within the category they cover, so you can see the full body of work behind any single recommendation by following the author link. Author biographies describe what that author covers and how they approach it. We do not claim professional credentials, certifications, or awards on this site.

Use of AI tools

We use software to gather specifications, organize research, and draft structure. No article is published without a person researching, editing, fact checking, and taking responsibility for it. An editor is accountable for every claim on this site regardless of what tool helped assemble it, and content that adds nothing beyond what is already available elsewhere does not get published here.

Updates and corrections

Articles show both a publication date and, where relevant, a last updated date. We revise a review when a product is revised, when a significant fault emerges, or when a better option enters the category.

When we publish something wrong, we fix it and say so. Corrections that change a conclusion, a score, or a factual claim are noted in the article itself rather than edited away silently. Report an error to [email protected] and include the article and what is wrong with it.

Health, safety, and money

Nothing on this site is medical, legal, tax, or financial advice. In categories that touch health or personal care we describe what a product is and what its maker claims, and we do not diagnose, prescribe, or promise results. For products involving electricity, gas, batteries, vehicles, or children, we note the relevant safety standards and warnings, and we tell you when the right source is a qualified professional rather than a review site.
